Winter Play Dough!

There is SO much learning happening when using play dough!

  • Hand-eye coordination by shaping the dough while looking at it.

  • Fine motor skills by strengthening the muscles in their hands by rolling, poking and squishing the dough.

  • Bilateral coordination by using both hands to flatten the dough with a rolling pin or cut shapes with other tools.

  • Cognitive development and vocabulary by learning different ways to describe what they’re doing with the play dough, i.e. roll, pinch, flatten.

  • Social skills by learning to share, take turns, compromise and resolve disagreements through problem solving.

  • Emotional regulation through calming down, focusing attention and easing tension.

We like to use play dough in our classroom often. Changing up the items we have available with the play dough keeps it engaging for our students.
